Product Highlight: Golden Wax 494 (5715-94-02)

Golden Wax 494 is a speciality tart wax and is one of our bestselling waxes! It is designed specifically for wax tarts/melts.

This 100% natural soy wax has great characteristics including excellent scent throw, easy mould release, and exhibits vibrant colours. We have also found that the Golden Wax 494 has a beautiful smooth frost-free appearance! Above you can see an image of some wax tarts which our research and development team have made using the Golden Wax 494!

Characteristics:

Max Fragrance Load: 10%
Melting Temperature: 49-52C
Pouring Temperature: 60-70C (Many of our customers find optimum results when pouring at 60C, but this is personal preference)
Dye: Inpex SD Dye is most suitable (Mix at 1-2g dye per 100g wax, depending on the shade you wish to achieve)

Moulds:

Golden Wax 494 is a natural soy wax developed specifically for use in making tart melts. This means that mould release is very easy when using our wax tart moulds. Our research and development team also successfully made votive candles using this wax, our votive moulds, and votive wick pins. We do not recommend using this wax for pillar candles however, as it is slightly too soft for this particular type of candle.

Wicking:

For wax tarts/melts: Wicking is not applicable.
For votive candles: Our R&D team used a P2-46 candle wick in their successful votives. However, many variables can affect the performance of a candle wick. We would recommend testing a small P2 wick or the ‘Votive Wick - Soy Wax Sample Pack’ on our website. Our wick sample packs are a fantastic way to test several wicks, which may be suitable, without committing to larger amounts.

Tips & Troubleshooting:

As with all waxes, we recommend adding your fragrance oil just before pouring your candle. Adding your fragrance prior to this point may cause some fragrance to evaporate.

Always test small batches with the mould you will be using. You may find that you need to adjust your method slightly, depending on the size and shape of your mould.

If you wish to speed up your making times, you may find it useful to use the cold water bath method.

Golden Wax Comparison: Which soy wax should I choose?

We are often asked questions such as ‘what is the difference between the Golden Waxes?’ and ‘which soy wax should I use?’ To help make this easier, we have put together a handy wax comparison chart for the Golden Wax 494, Golden Wax 464, and Golden Wax 444: The Similarities All three of the Golden Waxes are manufactured by AAK. They are natural, kosher, vegan and cruelty free. The most suitable dye to use with natural soy wax is the Inpex SD Dye . Additionally, all three waxes have very similar fragrance loads (10-11%) and offer fantastic cold and hot throw when used alongside Escentscia Prime Range and Style Range fragrance oils. Candle Making Guide: How to prime raw candle wick

All wicks should be coated in wax before they are used. We offer pre-waxed candle wicks here for customers who prefer the convenience, but we also offer raw candle wick here for customers who enjoy priming their own wicks. Raw wick is unwaxed cotton wick. It is supplied in string-like format and is wound onto a cardboard bobbin. A step-by-step guide to priming your own wicks can be found below: Cut the required length of wick off the cardboard spool which it is supplied on. Dip the wick into the melted wax and keep the wick in the melted wax until you see air bubbles rise to the surface. This generally takes a few seconds. When this happens, it means that the wick has absorbed a sufficient amount of wax and the wick can now be removed from the wax. Run your fingers along the wick to remove any extra air bubbles and then lay flat on a hard surface. Once this has dried, we recommend repeating this procedure twice, but please note when doing the 2nd and 3rd layer you only need to dip
