Candle Making Guide: Container Candles

Container candles are one of the most popular types of candles thanks to the variety of containers available. Additionally, making candles in containers you already own is both a lot of fun and kinder to the environment as re-using also eliminates the cost, energy, transport, and small amount of pollution associated with recycling. What you will need • Double Pan Set (to melt your wax) • Thermometer • Container wax • Candle Wick (pre-waxed with sustainers is best) • Inpex Dye (optional) • Escentscia Fragrance Oil (optional) Choosing a container It is always better considering the jars and tins you already own. Glasses and tea-cups can also be found at bric-a-brac stores, car boot, and charity shops (you will also be supporting that charity). Not a lot of glass is made using recycled glass – and glass which is recycled is usually processed overseas rather than locally – so it is best to re-use wherever possible rather than recycling or buying new if we are serious about reducing our fo...

Product Highlight: Woodwick Candle Wicks

Wooden wicks can be a fantastic alternative to traditional cotton candle wicks. One of the advantages of using a wooden wick is that common problems with cotton wicks (such as mushrooming) are not applicable to wooden wicks. Another benefit of wooden wick candles is that since wooden wicks are rigid they require no support from a wick centering tool . This means that set-up is super simple, requiring only setting them in the wick sustainer and placing them in the container with a glue dot. Candles made with a natural wood wick are enhanced with the soothing fragrance of burning wood combined with the crackling sound of a wood fire. In the Lumetique Original Woodwick range, we offer a total of fifteen sizes. This is broken down into five sizes in three different ranges. Each pack contains a total of ten wicks and ten sustainers. All our Wooden Wicks are 128mm long and therefore additional wooden wick sustainers are available on our website for customers who wish to make two sm...

Product Highlight: Wick Centering Tool

A common issue which candle makers face is keeping their wicks central when making container candles. Some candle makers choose to use everyday objects however these can be much more impractical and less reliable. This is where our Wick Centering Tool comes in! The Wick Centering Tool, which comes in three sizes, easily allows you to achieve a central wick every time! The 85mm Wick Centering Tool also comes with several wick holes which is ideal for multi-wick candles. Simply secure your sustainer to the bottom of your container, thread your pre-waxed wick through the central hole, place the wick centering tool over your container and use the notch to ensure your wick is kept taught. The Wick Centering Tool can be used repeatedly and is a vital accessory for any candle maker! Available at: https://www.4candles.co.uk/candle-making-accessories/equipment.html#wct
