Introduction:
Bipol-X is one of our most popular wax additives. It is
common misconception for new candle makers that Bipol-X improves existing scent
within a candle however this is untrue. Bipol-X allows you to add more
fragrance. When used correctly, Bipol-X
allows you to triple scent your candles – meaning you can add up to 30% fragrance
oil! Bipol-X works by modifying the crystal structure of wax to prevent the leaching of fragrance oils from the wax. The additive will absorb the fragrance keeping the finished candle dry and eliminating sweating.
Typically, most candle waxes can hold a 10% fragrance load. If you were to use more than this percentage the fragrance oil will begin to ‘sweat’ out of the candle.
Characteristics:
Format: Beads
Melting temperature: Bipol-X must be heated to a temperature of around 80C to melt.
Pouring temperature: Dependent upon the wax you are using Bipol-X with.
Using the Bipol-x:
When using the Bipol-X, you do not need to account for the first 10% of fragrance you are adding to your mixture.
Due to the high melt-point of Bipol-X, you can get a better result if you melt the Bipol-X by itself and then add the fragrance to it. We also recommend adding a small amount of your candle wax to the Bipol-X in order to create more volume which forms a more practical mixture when combining the melted Bipol-X with your melted candle wax.
The Bipol-X can be used up to a maximum of 7g per 100g wax and you should mix the Bipol-X at 1g per 3ml of additional fragrance.
Tips and troubleshooting:
- You only need to use Bipol-X when using above a 10% fragrance load.
- As with all candle making, we recommend adding your fragrance oil just before pouring your candle. Adding your fragrance oil prior to this point may cause some fragrance to evaporate.
- If you are unsure of which wax additive would be best for your requirements, please contact us.
- You will need to re-test your candle wick when using Bipol-X, due to the increase in fragrance percentage.
- Ensure that you are using high-quality candle making fragrances, such as Escentscia and Escentscia US Style Ranges, to get a strong fragrance throw when making candles.
Comments
Bipol-X is a fantastic additive, but that depends on the amount of fragrance you would like to add to your candle wax.
At a maximum, you could add up to 70g Bipol-X to 1kg soy wax allowing you to add a total of 310ml or grams of fragrance oil but this would be an extremely powerful mixture!
However, it is extremely rare that the maximum amount would need to be used!
If you'd like help on working out any specific percentage equations, please do not hesitate to contact us!
How you market your candles is hugely down to your own business and many of our customers promote soy wax in different ways. Bipol-X is a man-made additive however it is commonly used along side fragrance oils - which are also synthetic. I hope this helps!
